AMSA-accredited surveying for domestic commercial vessels.
TK Marine Consultants is an accredited DCV surveyor and an AIMS certified commercial marine surveying company, covering the full range of AMSA statutory survey types for Domestic Commercial Vessels (DCVs) and Regulated Australian Vessels (RAVs) — reported through an ISO 9001 quality system.
DCV & RAV surveys, to the inspection type your risk rating requires
Every DCV is required to undergo regular inspection at the interval set by its risk rating. As an accredited DCV surveyor, TK Marine carries out the full range of AMSA statutory survey types, plus the stability and load-line testing that sits alongside them.
- Periodic Survey — scheduled inspection at the interval set by the vessel's risk rating.
- Renewal Survey — the out-of-water inspection required every five years for DCV vessels.
- Damage Survey — hull, machinery and equipment inspection following an incident, for insurers or owners.
- Exemption Survey — inspection and documentation to support vessel exemptions, including Exemption 40 (commercial work boats/barges) and Exemption 02 (smooth-water operations).
- Insurance Survey — impartial inspection at the intervals a commercial hull insurer requires.
- Stability & load-line testing — practical stability tests and load-line testing to AS1799/NSCV/USL standards, including grandfathered pre-2013 vessels under the USL Code.
Fuel tank pressure testing & BINDT accredited thickness testing
Renewal surveys bring their own testing requirements, and TK Marine carries out both in-house rather than referring them out: fuel tank pressure testing to confirm tank integrity, and BINDT (British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing) accredited hull thickness testing for steel and aluminium construction, at the intervals AMSA stipulates.
- Fuel tank pressure testing — required as part of most renewal surveys, carried out on site.
- Thickness testing — BINDT accredited, steel & aluminium hulls, reported against the vessel's original construction thickness.
- One surveyor, one visit — the renewal survey, pressure testing and thickness testing are scheduled together wherever possible.

Common questions about DCV & RAV surveys
What's the difference between a periodic and a renewal survey?
A periodic survey is the scheduled inspection that keeps a DCV's existing certificate current, at the interval set by its risk rating. A renewal survey is the more thorough out-of-water inspection required roughly every five years, and it's usually when fuel tank pressure testing and hull thickness testing are carried out alongside it.
Do you travel outside Perth for commercial surveys?
Yes. We actively cover the WA coast from Bunbury to Broome, including Port Hedland, Karratha and Dampier, and we reach anywhere else in Australia through a national surveyor network for project work. Travel is quoted separately from the survey fee.
What does thickness testing involve, and who's qualified to do it?
We take ultrasonic thickness readings across the hull at a representative spread of points, then compare them against the vessel's original construction thickness to confirm it's still within an acceptable range for continued service. TK Marine is a BINDT accredited thickness tester for both steel and aluminium hulls, and the readings are reported as part of your renewal survey documentation.
Can the renewal survey, pressure testing and thickness testing happen in one visit?
In most cases, yes — we schedule them together where the vessel's haul-out or slipping window allows it, which keeps your vessel out of service for less time overall.
What's included in the price shown above?
The rates above cover a standard-scope survey during normal business hours. Travel, disbursements and out-of-hours attendance are charged separately, and the final quotation depends on the vessel's construction, condition, access and location — contact us with the vessel's details and we'll confirm a firm quote.
Is TK Marine accredited to issue AMSA statutory survey reports?
Yes — TK Marine Consultants is an AMSA-accredited surveyor (AMSA 6760-7094 9) and an AIMS Certified Commercial Marine Surveyor, operating under an ISO 9001 quality management system, so every report is issued against a documented process.
