Marine Consulting & Warranty Surveys · WA

Project-based consulting for operators, not just single-vessel surveys.

Alongside statutory and condition surveys, TK Marine takes on project work and gap-analysis consulting for towage and port operators — and is accredited to carry out marine warranty surveying for cargo insurance. Available Australia-wide.

01 / On/off-hire & gap analysis

Condition surveys and compliance gap analysis for operators

On/off-hire surveys record a vessel's condition at the start and end of a charter or hire period — identifying existing damage before the charter begins and documenting condition at handover, which gives both parties evidence if a dispute arises later.

Gap analysis is project-based consulting for towage and port operators: assessing a vessel, item of equipment or tender against Australian standards and regulations before it enters service, so compliance gaps are identified and closed up front rather than found during an incident or a statutory survey.

  • Vessel & equipment gap analysis — new or incoming vessels, tenders and equipment assessed against Australian standards before they go into service.
  • Towage & port operator advisory — practical compliance input drawn from time spent inside the towage sector, not just survey theory.
  • Safety & operational readiness — hull integrity, machinery and equipment functionality, and operational readiness against port requirements.
  • Documentation support — findings packaged to support insurance, customs and biosecurity requirements where relevant.
02 / Marine warranty surveying

Accredited marine warranty surveyor — cargo, not vessel

TK Marine is an accredited marine warranty surveyor for cargo insurance purposes — independently verifying the packing, stowage and securing of high-value cargo ahead of export or transit, carried out to satisfy the marine cargo insurer's warranty conditions before the voyage begins.

  • Packing & preparation — checked against the cargo type and expected voyage conditions.
  • Stowage & securing — lashing, blocking and stowage arrangements verified before departure.
  • Warranty compliance — documentation to meet the insurer's marine warranty requirements.
How a project is scoped

No pricing table here — project work is quoted to the brief.

Consulting and gap-analysis work varies too much by scope, vessel count and location to put a single price on. Here's how we get from first call to a fixed quote.

  1. Initial scope call. Tell us what's driving the project — a new vessel entering service, a charter agreement, a compliance review — and the rough scale of it.
  2. Site or vessel assessment. We visit the vessel, equipment or site to confirm scope before quoting, rather than quoting blind.
  3. Written proposal & fixed quote. A clear scope of work and price, so there's no surprise once the job's under way.
  4. Survey or consulting delivery. Work carried out against the agreed scope, with regular contact if anything changes along the way.
  5. Report & close-out. Findings delivered in a report suited to your operation — an insurer, a regulator, or your own records.
Recent job

Pre-purchase survey on a bulk carrier, boarded by helicopter.

Not every survey starts at the wharf. This one began with a helicopter transfer offshore, followed by a full day on board a bulk carrier for a prospective buyer.

The inspection covered:

  • Bridge and navigation equipment
  • Deck cranes and cargo holds
  • Main engine and engine control room
  • Fire pumps and fixed fire-fighting systems
  • Accommodation, galley and crew spaces

That is the scope a buyer needs before committing, and the same approach applies whether the vessel is a trailer boat or a bulk carrier.
