Frequently Ask Questions

What is an AMSA survey and do I need one?

An AMSA survey is a statutory survey required for domestic commercial vessels to meet Australian Maritime Safety Authority standards. If you operate a commercial vessel in Australian waters, you’re generally required to hold a valid survey certificate. We conduct these surveys as accredited marine surveyors.

What's the difference between a pre-purchase survey and an insurance survey?

A pre-purchase survey gives a prospective buyer an independent assessment of a vessel’s condition before they commit to buying it. An insurance survey serves a similar purpose but is typically requested by an insurer to assess risk and determine coverage or valuation. We can conduct either, and in many cases the same survey satisfies both purposes.

What types of vessels do you survey?

We’re accredited to survey vessels built from steel, aluminium, polyethylene, and fibreglass (FRP), covering a broad range of commercial and recreational craft.

What's involved in an on/off-hire survey?

On/off-hire surveys assess and document a vessel’s condition at the start and end of a charter or hire period, giving both parties a clear record to reference if a dispute arises over damage or condition.

Do you travel outside Perth for surveys?

Yes — alongside our Perth-based surveying work, we also offer vessel delivery services, and can discuss travel for surveys outside the metro area depending on the job.

How do I get a quote or book a survey?

Contact us directly with your vessel details and the type of survey you need, and we’ll confirm scope, timing, and pricing for your specific situation.
